Do not part with your cash before seeing the finished article.

Quality control on new housing developments is not always what it should be and when carrying out ‘snagging’ inspections we occasionally come across issues such as extract fan ducts not connected, incomplete roof insulation, incorrectly sized and fitted doors, and poor quality pointing. So if you are buying a new home you should consider arranging an independent inspection prior to completion.

The photograph below is from a newly occupied house where the owner was concerned about cracking. It is in an unusual location and the cause was not immediately obvious, but further investigation showed that due to incorrectly specified roof trusses an inappropriate design alteration was made to the eaves that was impacting on the wall below. Appropriate remedial works were negotiated with the developer.
